‘Memories in the Making’: Ice rink opens at Richardi Park
BELLAIRE – There was no shortage of smiles or determination as people of all ages enjoyed the recent Ice Skating Open House on Jan. 26 at the rink in Bellaire’s Richardi Park.
“No, the crisp cold day did nothing to detour the spirit of our town!” said Bellaire Youth Initiative volunteer Tammy Lockwood. “We were out there in masses – each, trying to steer ourselves on the beautiful ice rink in Richardi Park.
“The Bellaire Rotary and other village volunteers were out in force first thing in the morning clearing all the fresh fallen snow on the two ice rinks. And we had volunteers at the Senior Center early in the day, making sure that everyone who was in need of skates went away with plenty!
“Memories of past, whether you were an ole pond skater from way back or just trying for the first time – the excitement was in the air!” she added.
Hot cocoa was supplied from M88 Market for the event, Lockwood said, while coffee, cookies and coupons were donated by McDonalds, who also provided its own servers for the beverages.
“There was so much going on at every inch of the ice that day – from hockey players to ballet skaters,” said Lockwood. “We actually had a few people come and watch in amazement, then comment that they would come back when it wasn’t so busy.
“What a great testament to be said for our community! The stillness of the winter is no match for the memories that are being made by our village. The moments of past, present and future are to be held within your heart.”
