Antrim County Fair to honor board president
BELLAIRE – As it has for many years, this year's Antrim County Fair, scheduled for Thursday, Aug. 9 through Saturday, Aug. 11, will showcase the best of the county's "Homemade or Homegrown," as well as the efforts of the county's very active 4-H youth.
But this year everyone will also be thinking of someone very special – Crystal Swain, the fair board's president for the last several years, who was recently diagnosed with Stage IV Glioblastoma, a form of brain cancer.
"It was devastating to all of us," said fair board vice president Teresa Cole of Swain's diagnosis. "But she and her family are digging in to fight this – and all of her many, many friends with the fair are digging in to make sure that this year's Antrim County Fair is the best it can be."
Cole said the fair board hopes to honor their president with a special dedication ceremony.
"We have a new sign that will be placed in the park, and we're hoping to be able to dedicate that to Crystal, and all she's done over the years, both with the 4-H group and with the fair."
Swain's efforts to continuously improve the fair will once again be evident to any and all in attendance, with a non-stop schedule of activities that will begin with a new event on Wednesday, Aug. 8 at the fairgrounds in the village of Bellaire's Craven Park.
