BELLAIRE – A truck pulling a boat and trailer crashed on the night of Aug. 26 along Derenzy Road near Intermediate Lake Drive in Bellaire.

Two Antrim County Sheriff’s Office deputies were reportedly involved in the single-car incident. The Michigan State Police Regional Headquarters in Gaylord is currently investigating the accident, at the request of Antrim County Sheriff Dan Bean.

According to the MSP, Michael Knight, 48, was driving and Sherry Knight, 43, was a passenger in the truck. Both required extrication from the vehicle following the crash.

Michael was airlifted from the scene to Munson Medical Center in Traverse City, while Sherry was taken by ambulance to Munson with non-life threatening injuries.

According to the MSP on Tuesday, Michael was interviewed at the hospital and stated that he was “distracted” while driving, which caused the accident.
