Armor Express, Inc.'s body armor manufacturing plant in Central Lake, which currently employs more than 160 full- and part-time people, is expected to grow with the company's recent merger with a former competitor, North Carolina's KDH Defense Systems. Both will operate as sister companies under the umbrella of Praesidium, a New York-based holding company.

CENTRAL LAKE – Armor Express, Inc., one of the largest high-performance body armor manufacturers in the world, announced last week that the 12-year-old company – headquartered in Central Lake – has merged with another large body armor manufacturer based in North Carolina.

By joining forces with KDH Defense Systems, Inc., of Eden, North Carolina, a former body armor competitor, Armor Express will further its ability to serve the U.S. Armed Forces, Department of Defense, federal and domestic law enforcement professionals and various international agencies across the world, according to a company representative.

With the merger, Armor Express, an offshoot of the now defunct Second Chance body armor company (which closed in 2004) is now owned by Praesidium, a New York-based holding company.
