Bennett elected as BVC president
BELLAIRE – Former president pro-tem Dan Bennett was unanimously elected last week to serve as Bellaire’s new village council president by his fellow board members, following the recent resignation of former president David Schulz.
Bennett, a retired Bellaire Public Schools government teacher, ski team coach and longtime village resident – as well as a delegate to the Democratic National Convention – has served as a trustee on the Council for the last several years.
He will now fill the remainder of a term ending in November 2020 that Schulz was elected to in 2018. Schulz resigned on July 31 after selling his business and home in the village and moving to an apartment outside of the village limits.
Also unanimously elected to the position of president pro-tem, filling the seat vacated by Bennett, was trustee David Ciganick, an area realtor and longtime village resident.
Bennett was then sworn in during last week’s regular monthly meeting by clerk Lori Luckett and took over the meeting.
The new Council president asked that changes to member committee assignments be tabled until next month, allowing him time to consider possible re-assignments. Also tabled until Bennett has had an opportunity to come up to speed was a discussion regarding the creation of an economic development committee.
