Best of the gridiron: Ancel is Review Football Player of the Year

MANCELONA — The road back to the postseason was a rocky one for Mancelona for sure.

The Ironmen had to endure four losing seasons, including a winless 2017 campaign, before getting back to the playoffs with five wins this year. Even then, Mancelona didn’t punch its ticket until the final week of the year, beating Kalkaska to make a return to the postseason.

As the year closed out Mancelona banded together and collectively did what it had to do to earn a 10th game of the season. But while the contributions the Ironmen received to break that playoff drought came from up and down the roster, there was one player who seemed as driven as anybody to assure the Ironmen qualified for the playoffs — senior Johnny Ancel.
