Blazers beat Chiefs in soccer district opener
CHEBOYGAN — Jon Wednieski buried a penalty kick with 12 minutes to play and that proved to be the difference in Kalkaska’s 3-2 win over host Cheboygan on Monday in a Division 3 boys soccer district opener.
Wednieski drilled the game-winning kick, his second goal of the game, to put the Blazers ahead for the third time in the contest. Cheboygan twice was able to erase one-goal deficits to tie the contest.
But after the Chiefs tied it a second time at 2, Kalkaska turned up its offensive pressure and manufactured a scoring opportunity when Tomarr Cullaj was fouled in the box. Wednieski took the kick and nailed it to make it a 3-2 game.
