Blazers bow out against top-ranked Stags
KALKASKA — The Kalkaska girls basketball team played top-ranked Kingsley tough for three of four quarters, but the Stags used their second-quarter performance to take a 58-39 win from the Blazers on Friday in a Class B district championship game.
Kingsley (23-0) outscored Kalkaska (17-6) 19-3 during the second period to build a 31-13 lead at the half. Kalkaska tried to battle back in the third, getting to within 42-28 at the end of the period but Kingsley showed why it is considered the best Class B team in the state and never let the Blazers completely back in the game.
