Blazers gear up for another solid year on the diamond
KALKASKA — A veteran baseball coach like Bill Vandergriff knows all too well that an injury here or there could derail a season.
But if this year’s Kalkaska team can stay healthy the Blazers are capable of having another good year on the diamond.
“They’re a pretty good group of kids,” said Vandergriff. “I have a little bit of pitching. You never can have enough, and you get stacked up in a season like this where we could possibly play Friday, Monday, Tuesday, then have a game on Thursday or Friday. The pitching regulations really stifle what you can do with it. We’ve got a few kids that I like. You never know what happens. If someone gets hurt things change in a hurry.”
