BOC holds first night meeting, meets new officer
BELLAIRE – Responding to years of requests that meetings take place when those with daytime obligations could attend, Antrim County's Board of Commissioners held its first regular evening meeting in many years on Thursday, Feb. 21.
But that was done without the presence of board chair Ed Boettcher, who was traveling on a previously scheduled trip, and county administrator Pete Garwood, who was away on family leave, as well as other integral county officials.
Highlighting the meeting, which included a full agenda overseen by board vice chair Karen Bargy, was an appearance by new Antrim County canine law enforcement officer Bricko, an 18-month-old German shepherd now in training, and his partner, Antrim County Sheriff's Deputy Skyler Skrobecki.
Skrobecki explained Bricko's background, training and duties to the Commissioners, and – adding how pleased he was with Bricko's progress – told the board about several recent law enforcement investigations that Bricko had been involved with.
After submitting his annual report (which is available on the Antrim County website), county forester Mike Meriwether reviewed his work with the Antrim County Road Commission, which involves – at the request of the Grass River Natural Area – making improvements (widening and removal of trees) to the road into the area's Visitor Center.
