Central Lake Township votes to permanently close transfer station
CENTRAL LAKE — With a unanimous vote taken during its monthly meeting last week, the Central Lake Township Board of Trustees voted to permanently close its transfer station.
The decision to close the station, which for many years disposed of household garbage, yard brush, and larger household items belonging to Central Lake, Torch Lake, and Banks Township residents, came after many discussions over several years, Central Lake Township supervisor Stan Bean said Monday.
"It wasn't an easy decision to make," Bean said. "But the problems just kept getting progressively worse, until there was no way of getting around them anymore."
