With more entries than ever before, the holiday parade will start at 7 p.m. Winning entries for the best commercial, nonprofit, private, and municipality parade categories will be awarded with a plaque and rosette ribbon. If any families, businesses, churches or organizations would still like to enter the parade, they can contact coordinator Katina Banko, at 231-715-1804.

KALKASKA – Santa Clause is coming to town for the 14th Annual Christmas in Kalkaska with events taking place daily from Dec. 6-8. Key activities are scheduled to include the Lighted Bus Tour, Lights Decorating Contest, Lighted Holiday Parade with bonfire, craft show, Breakfast with Santa, and Abe DeVol Charity Lock-in Concert.

The 2018 lineup of events is slated to be the brightest ever, according to organizers.

Debbie Ball-Odeh has helped enhance Christmas in Kalkaska each year since she took over the role of event organizer a decade ago.

On what keeps her motivated to organize the community event each holiday season, Ball-Odeh offers a nod to children.

“I think it’s just a needed activity in our community,” she said. “I keep doing it for the kids. When I come downtown for the tree-lighting after the parade, I love seeing all the kids lined up for Santa. It’s worth it seeing their faces light up.”
