CL schools may cut five more staff positions
CENTRAL LAKE – Still facing a more than $200,000 deficit in next year's proposed budget – despite the recent elimination of its principal – the Central Lake Board of Education may cut five more staff positions, including a teacher, to balance the district's 2017/2018 budget.
Central Lake Superintendent Lenore Weaver updated the board, as well as more than 60 parents, staff and students in the audience during a special school board meeting Monday night.
The new cuts now under consideration follow a series of past budget and program eliminations made over the last decade to address reduced student enrollment and rising expenditures – and after the district pulled out of the state’s per-pupil funding allotment formula three years ago.
