Commissioners hear health department complaints

BELLAIRE — After a volatile public comment period, during which Scott Kendzierski of the Health Dept. of Northwest Michigan read a statement defending the department's permit application process, Antrim County's Board of Commissioners took care of several business items and heard about an upcoming FEMA meeting during its bi-weekly meeting of Thursday, Sept. 3.

Explaining that he had received a voice mail from District 7 Commissioner Dawn LaVanway, as well as the general contractor of a Dollar General store under construction in Alba the day before, Kendzierski noted in his statement that some of the delay in issuing a health department permit to the project, which must be done before a building permit for construction can be approved, had been due to incomplete and incorrect information from the contractor.

Kendzierski then vigorously defended his staff and the health department's permit application process. 

The contractor has now received verbal approval for the permit, Kendzierski noted.
