Commissioners table millage reduction, election audit proposals

BELLAIRE — During a very contentious and lengthy seven-hour meeting on Thursday, May 6, the Antrim County Board of Commissioners heard more than an hour of public comment and tabled decisions on proposals to reduce the county's general operating millage and having some sort of audit done on last November's general election. 

After listening to numerous comments and letters from the public regarding the honesty and integrity of County Clerk Sheryl Guy, a Republican who made an error during tabulation of the county's results on Nov. 3, District 7 Commissioner Dawn LaVanway brought up the idea of having what she called a "full, forensic audit" done.

Making a motion to do so, LaVanway said she was receiving constant questions and comments from her constituents regarding the possibility of fraud during the election
