Construction of much-delayed pavilion slowly moving ahead

CENTRAL LAKE – It's been slow, almost painfully slow. And there have been a number of disagreements over costs charged for work accomplished. But construction of Central Lake’s new public pavilion and rest rooms is slowly moving ahead.   

Gourdie-Fraser consultant Jennifer Hodges, who is shepherding the project for Central Lake, updated the Central Lake Village Council during the Council’s meeting of Wednesday, Feb. 12, noting that roof beams had finally been erected that day by construction company Green Construction Group, of Traverse City, on the structure, which is intended to host public events as well as the village’s seasonal Farmer’s Market.  

Originally scheduled to be completely finished by the end of November of last year, ground was not even broken on the project until late fall. In November, Hodges expressed her frustration with the delay to the Council, saying, “They've had all kinds of excuses, blaming the delays on a lack of labor and problems with subcontractors,” and added that safety had become an issue.
