BELLAIRE – The Antrim County Jail served as the location for a special event on Wednesday, April 4 when a former township treasurer married a convicted drug dealer housed in the jail while awaiting sentencing.

Heather Springstead, 39, of Central Lake, who served as treasurer for Central Lake Township for several years, married Christopher Ries, 40, also of Central Lake, in a small ceremony at the jail.

Ries has been an inmate at the jail since Jan. 10. At that time he was arrested on charges of delivery and manufacturing less than 50 grams (of a controlled substance) and maintaining a drug house. The charges resulted from a TNT drug raid on Springstead's Central Lake home.

Ries was scheduled to be sentenced on Tuesday, April 10, but that action was postponed.

A convicted habitual offender with a 2015 felony conviction for possession of methamphetamine, Ries will remain housed in the Antrim County Jail until a new sentencing date is set by 13th Circuit Court Judge Kevin Elsenheimer.

Springstead, along with two other men in the home at the time of the raid, was also arrested on charges of controlled substance – maintaining a drug house, but those charges were dropped in late February pending further investigation.
