County battling budget deficit, potential cost to update Kaliseum

KALKASKA – Kalkaska County officials are fighting a numbers war that includes a 2018 budget plan that is currently in the red and the possibility of having to find more than $4 million to repair and replace various critical pieces of infrastructure at the Kaliseum Recreation Complex.

The Kalkaska County Board of Commissioners and other county officials and department heads have been working on a proposed budget plan that could including more than $7 million in expenditures, but only a little more than $6.8 million in revenue.

That’s left officials seeking answers on how best to close an estimated $182,000 budget gap, with the county having to approve, by state law, a balanced budget plan by Dec. 31.
