Cross country runners see first action at Ryan Shay Invitational

BELLAIRE — The 2019 cross country season officially got off and running on Saturday as area teams were among those to take part in the annual Ryan Shay Memorial Invitational, held this year at the Bellaire Centennial Golf Club.

There was one boys and one girls race, but results were broken down by Division 3 and Division 4 schools. Kalkaska’s boys finished third in Division 3 with 76 points and Mancelona’s boys were fourth with 95. Charlevoix took first with 25 points. In Division 4, East Jordan came away with a first-place finish (37), with Ellsworth coming in fifth with 135 points.

On the girls side, Ellsworth was third overall in Division 4, scoring 73 points. Mount Pleasant Sacred Heart, the defending state champions in Division 4, was first with 36 points. Mancelona took fourth in Division 3 with 111 points, while Kalkaska was fifth with 123. Charlevoix finished first with 32.
