TORCH LAKE – The Michigan Department of Natural Resources has scheduled a public open house on Thursday, Aug. 17, allowing residents to review a feasibility study for a proposed boat launch and access site on the west side of Torch Lake in Torch Lake Township.

At the open house, scheduled from 5-8 p.m. at the Torch Lake Township Hall, DNR staff will be available to answer questions and offer input on the proposal for a boat launch with trailer parking – as well as the possibility of rest rooms – on a two-acre piece of state-owned property on North West Torch Lake Drive, north of McLachlan Road and south of Sand Point on the west side of the 17-mile long lake.

“I guess the first question we members of the Torch Lake Protection Alliance will want to ask is ‘What’s changed since 1996?’” mused Greg Payne of TLPA. “That’s when a court injunction obtained by the newly formed Torch Lake Protection Alliance was successful in stopping the DNR’s plans for a boat launch and access site there the first time.”
