DNR revisits new boat launch on Torch

A 13th Circuit Court injunction halted the DNR’s plans for the area in 1996, but an increase in congestion and overcrowding at other public accesses on the lake has renewed the state’s interest.
TORCH LAKE – A public boat launch proposed for the west side of Torch Lake near McLachlan Road would require as much as 270 feet of dredging, the Michigan DNR told stakeholders during a meeting last week.
The meeting about the proposal, held on Thursday, Aug. 10 at the Torch Lake Township Hall, was attended by township officials and Torch Lake Protection Alliance and Three Lakes Association board members who were given information on a feasibility study the DNR is currently conducting regarding the launch.
