Dog days warm the winter weekend

KALKASKA — The howls and cheers of crowds, racers, and dogs filled the Kalkaska County Fairgrounds February 15th and 16th, for the 2020 Kalkaska Winterfest. The free weekend event attracted participants and spectators from all over the country.

Sled dog races, dog weight pulls, fun run, craft show, silent auction, concessions and more were offered both Saturday and Sunday thanks to organizers from several different groups, volunteers and canines. Winterfest Board member and 2020 Race Marshall, Shannon Moore, is thankful for everyone involved in making Winterfest a success.

“Thank you to our volunteers for all of your hard work to help us put on the races and to the Sherriff’s work crew for setting up our event every year. The atmosphere between mushers is really something special and it is fun to be a part of this community.”
