Effects of last week’s storm yet to be tallied

Saturated ground from several inches of rain in a very short time, coupled with high winds, pushed trees onto the roofs of several homes on the south side of Birch Lake

ELK RAPIDS - Exactly two years and one day after the region’s worst summer storm in history, another one blew into the area last Thursday afternoon, bringing with it a confirmed tornado and once again battering the Elk Rapids and Kewadin areas.

Thankfully, the damage suffered during the Aug. 3 was not as severe as the widespread damage experienced during the memorable storm that slammed Leelanau, Grand Traverse, Antrim, and Kalkaska counties on Sunday, Aug. 2, 2015.

While no significant power outages were reported, the recent storm did cause affects not often seen in the area – flash flooding and a funnel cloud.
