Elks end Ironmen season in district opener
EAST JORDAN — Elk Rapids came out shooting in the Class C boys basketball district opener against Mancelona Monday night in East Jordan, getting an 81-62 win and advancing to the district final.
Elk Rapids guards Grayson Krakow and Preston Ball combined for five first quarter threes, racing out to a 17-5 lead over the Ironmen. Mancelona fought back with a 7-2 run, using balanced scoring. The Ironmen got a put back by Jayden Alfred, a three by Isaac Cousineau and a drive down the lane by Matt Boyer, who had a team high 22 points — 18 in the second half. The Elks reared up with a 12-4 run, closing out the first quarter with a 28-16 lead. In the second, the Elks led by 19 just under the midway point.
