A panel of experts spoke last Tuesday, April 4 during a public forum on prevention of sexual abuse of children, held at the Banks Township Hall in Ellsworth.

REGION – The month of April is both National Child Abuse Prevention Month and National Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention Month. To mark those designations, a panel of area experts on child sexual abuse met in Ellsworth last week for a public forum in an effort to spread awareness of the issue.

Attending the Tuesday, April 4 event at the Banks Township Hall were a number of area educators, clergy and school administrators, as well as interested area residents.

The community meeting was arranged to spread awareness to anyone involved with schools, churches and youth organizations frequented by children under 18, said Rev. Pamela Luce, who coordinated the event.

Sexual abuse of children is an "undisclosed pain that is having a huge impact on our lives and communities," Luce said.
