Guggemos the Boys Cross Country Runner of the Year

Kalkaska’s Tyler Guggemos is building quite the resume running for the Blazers’ boys cross country team.

Now in his third year with the Blazers, Guggemos added to his legacy this season when he dominated the competition at nearly every meet in which he ran. Though the ending didn’t go the way Guggemos had hoped as he missed the regional and state meet due to COVID-19 protocols and precaution, he still made his mark during the time that he did race and is the repeat pick as the All-Area Boys Cross Country Runner of the Year.

Guggemos was the leader of a strong pack of boys runners this season. Six qualified for the finals in their respective divisions to showcase the growing prowess of boys runners at several different schools. Though team performances weren’t enough to get any school beyond the regional — Elk Rapids, Ellsworth, Mancelona, Bellaire and Forest Area all showed that standout runners do exist at each of those schools.
