Guggemos edges McClure for first at Grayling Invitational

GRAYLING — In their first head to head meeting of the season, Kalkaska’s Tyler Guggemos edged Mancelona’s Tyler McClure as the first overall finisher at Monday’s Grayling Invitational.

The top two boys cross country runners in the area were head and shoulders ahead of the rest of the field at Hanson Hills Recreation Area, with Guggemos (16:50) emerging with a 10-second win over McClure (17:00). Mancelona’s Greg Parsons, who came in third, ran a time of 18:19.

On the girls side, Elk Rapids Sarah Zamaitas was the overall top finisher with a convincing first-place finish in a time of 22:33. Kalkaska’s Brooklyn Whiteford was the runner up in 23:20.

Kalkaska’s boys were the team winners with 37 points. Elk Rapids was second with 51 and Mancelona was third with 60.
