Historical society to honor church at annual township picnic Aug. 25
GARFIELD TWP. – Garfield Township isn’t going to honor just a family during an upcoming community picnic, but a whole church.
Organizers of the annual Garfield Community Pioneer Picnic have announced that, with the Garfield Country Church celebrating its 100th anniversary, the local church would be honored as the “2018 Pioneer Family” during festivities on Saturday, Aug. 25.
The annual picnic, a community-wide event celebrates the pioneer spirit and rugged individualism of past and present families, will again be held at the Veteran’s Memorial Park on West Sharon Road next Saturday.
“The Garfield Historical Society is proud to preserve the area’s colorful past as the foundation of our community” said GHS chairwoman Mary Lou Stuck.
The Garfield Country Church seemed the perfect choice to be honored at the picnic, as it celebrates a century of service to area residents. A proclamation will be presented Pastor Kim Hough during a presentation at 10 a.m. on Aug. 25. A tour of the Garfield Museum and then the “Picnic Lunch at the Park” are slated to follow the presentation.
