Ironmen three-peat as team wrestling district champs

FRANKFORT — The trophy showcase at Mancelona High School has another piece of hardware to display as the Ironmen captured the Division 4 team district title in Frankfort on Thursday.

This was the third straight district team championship win, after suffering a 15-year drought dating back to 2003. Opening against Frankfort, the Ironmen earned a 54-24 win with six points won by Kayden Coltson (103), Kyle Corcoran-Edwards (112), Gage Tipton (119), Jaden Jones (125), Kylie Carriere (135), Aiden Nielson (140), Ian Sommerville (145), Isaiah Groesser (189) and Morgan Witkop (215).

The Ironmen faced Traverse City St. Francis in the championship, dispatching the Gladiators 54-30 to capture the trophy. Six points were earned by Coltson, Corcoran-Edwards, Tipton, Carriere, Sommerville, Dillon McEwan (171), Steve Niehwenhuis (189), Groesser and Mike Boughner (285).
