Kalkaska Animal Shelter receives high marks for adoption rates
KALKASKA — The Kalkaska County Animal Control/Shelter received high marks recently with the release of the Michigan Homeless Cats and Dogs 2019 Live Release Rate.
In that report Kalkaska scored a 98 percent adoption rate — one of just 29 counties that had a 98 percent or better rating. Neighboring Crawford County, along with Leelanau and Ontonagan counties, all scored 100 percent to top the list. Three of the 80 counties in Michigan do not have a county run animal shelter — Oscoda, Presque Isle and Luce counties.
The Live Release Rate report is part of an initiative to make Michigan a ‘No Kill State’ within its state-wide animal shelters.
