KDPS remodel to help department prep for future expansion

KALKASKA — The Kalkaska Department of Public Safety is literally making room for the future.

Work recently began on remodeling about 1,100 square feet of space at the Kalkaska Village Offices on Hyde Street to provide additional working space for the law enforcement agency, including a secure area for a LEIN computer terminal.

The Kalkaska Village Council paved the way for the project earlier this year, when it approved awarding a winning bid of $20,400 submitted by Dunn Construction of Kalkaska at its regular meeting in January.

“We’re going to make better use of the space that we have,” said KDPS Sgt. Aaron Popa, when presenting the bids to the council.

Scott Yost, KDPS director and village manager, said the project is also an effort to prepare the department for future growth.
