Kickoff to summer: Library reading event draws in 200 kids
KALKASKA – Approximately 200 children flocked to Chalker Park on Monday to attend the Kalkaska County Library’s Summer Reading Kickoff. The youngsters were drawn in with a chance to make homemade butter along with the appeal of a petting zoo that featured geese, ducks and goats.
Every child that attended the June 19 event could pick out a free book and sign up for the library’s summer reading program.
“I see the library’s role as doing our best to make it easy for kids to read through the summer,” said KCL Director John Roberts.
