Lady Elks end long losing streak to Blazers
ELK RAPIDS — History repeats itself the phrase goes, but not in girls varsity basketball this week.
Elk Rapids snapped a seven-game losing streak to LMC foe Kalkaska, winning at home 33-29. The last victory over the Blazers was on January 14, 2014, in Elk Rapids. Before that, the Elks had not won since around 2002.
Kalkaska used an 8-3 first quarter run for a 14-8 lead with two minutes to play. Elk Rapids closed out the quarter with five unanswered points, cutting the Blazers’ lead to 14-13. The teams struggled to score in the second quarter, Kalkaska coming out on top 5-4 for a 19-17 halftime advantage.
