Local resident recalls career with country star Kenny Rogers

BELLAIRE – At the end of his current tour around the world in August, the legendary "Gambler"-musician Kenny Rogers, will retire.

But the memories of a career spanning more than half a century will always be there for Bellaire resident Dan Jacobs and his brother Chuck.

Born and raised in Bellaire, where the whole family was musically involved, the brothers spent many years playing in the bands that have accompanied the country music star over the years.

"My brother and I first met Kenny through a mutual friend of ours, Edgar Struble, that we knew from our years at Michigan State University," Dan Jacobs said last week from his home in Bellaire. "Edgar was the musical director of the Kenny Rogers Band, and both Chuck and I had played with him in various bands in Michigan."
