MANCELONA — For the second year in a row Mancelona has secured a Michigan State Housing Development Authority Neighborhood Enhancement grant could provide renovations to close to a dozen homes in the village and Mancelona Township.

Applications for the grant will be available beginning at 9 a.m. on Monday, May 11 through the Mancelona Community Resource Development and will be accepted until June 15 at 9 a.m.

The amount of the grant, at $75,000, is more than double last year’s total and should give between 8-11 homes an opportunity to have exterior improvements done. MHSDA’s grant accounted for $45,000 for homes in the village, while Rotary Charities provided $30,000 to the program, which will allow for renovations to homes in the village or the township.

“We’re really excited,” said Elise Crafts, Executive Coordinator for the Mancelona CRD. “We knew the funding was needed and I think with COVID-19 it is probably more needed than ever as families are making decisions about where to spend their dollars. What’s extra exciting this year is we have over double the funding we started with. Our funding sources were more diverse this year so we can actually use some of that funding for township homeowners, which was not possible last year.”
