New clinic opens to fight opioid addiction
KALKASKA – Available medical services in Kalkaska County have increased in recent years, including high demand services such as pediatricians, chemotherapy and dialysis. Now Medication Assisted Therapy and Recovery Counseling for opioid addiction have been added to that list.
“Rural areas are the hardest hit with opioid addictions and the least served,” said recovery counselor Adam C. DeVaney of Life’s Work Clinic, PLLC, explaining the reasons why he chose Kalkaska to open his new office. “You have to meet people where they are, where they need the most help.”
The clinic hopes to be the point of contact for anyone in Kalkaska or surrounding counties that is struggling to find their way out of opioid addiction. The clinic opened the doors of its Kalkaska office on Third Street last week, making it the second location for DeVaney, its owner and a Licensed Clinical Social Worker.
DeVaney’s other office is located in the Village of Grand Traverse Commons. He has also helped operate Wellsprings Acres, an equine assisted experiential learning facility in Rapid City, since December 2017 with his wife, Mandi DeVaney.
DeVaney hopes to bring together all of the pieces of treatment and recovery for his clients so they are better positioned to focus on their healing.
DeVaney outlined the clear and concise steps that he would guide his clients through to use as a road map for recovery, including: stabilizing withdrawal in a standard process, directing them to physicians who oversee the prescription and medical portion of their journey, and flexible counseling appointments.
