New gaming store provides space for youth, community in winter months
KALKASKA – A new business has “plugged in” to the historic district of downtown Kalkaska this fall. Found at 330 Cedar St., Game Off is a fresh stop for video game enthusiasts.
“We want to provide a place where there’s something to do and somewhere to hang in this town,” said Mitch Nowakowski, who runs the shop. “We want to try to be something for the community.
“We especially think this is important during the winter,” added Andrew Elsten, one of the gaming consultants. “It gives more options than just outdoor winter sports.”
The game shop is open to all ages, though parental permission may be required for certain games. Prices to use the gaming consoles and any game in the shop vary depending on the time of day. Before 4 p.m., the rate is $2 per hour. After 4 p.m., the rate is $3 per hour.
Game Off will offer more than just video games. There will also be scheduled game nights for playing cards and board games, as well as tournaments. There is currently a Smash Bros. tournament every other Sunday and the shop has previously held Call of Duty tournaments.
For the future there are tournament plans for Hearthstone, Rocket League, Warhammer, and more.
