ELK RAPIDS – After spending more than eight years at the helm of Elk Rapids Public schools, superintendent Steve Prissel has resigned.
Prissel submitted his resignation to the board Monday night during its regular meeting. The board approved the measure and separation agreement 6-0 with no discussion. Newly appointed trustee Mike Brown abstained from the vote.

Prissel’s last day is listed as June 30.

Board president Carol Pressman said the district will immediately begin the process of finding a replacement.

“We currently have two candidates that are interested in serving as our interim superintendent,” said Pressman. “The board will hold a special meeting this Friday, May 25 to interview those candidates and make a decision.”

As to the long term, Pressman said that during the board’s next regular meeting on June 4, they will interview representatives from three search firms, including the Michigan Association of School Boards, Michigan Leadership Institute and Harman Consulting. At that time, each will outline its respective realm of services and the costs associated with those services.
