Ready to Roll: With four new trucks, ACRC is set for winter
MANCELONA – With four new snowplowing trucks and three barns full of salt, the Antrim County Road Commission is ready for winter.
After a light winter last year, and what looks like a later start to substantial snowfall this season, Road Commission Manager/Engineer Burt Thompson is hoping for a season that's easy on the roads, and his winter budget, but he isn't counting on it.
"You have to be ready, because you never know what Mother Nature is going to throw at you," he said earlier this week. "It's nice to say we're ready – actually, we have been for a while."
With two new trucks in the garage by the end of last year's snowplowing season, and two more since then, Thompson said his department is in better shape than it's been in a long time –equipment wise – thanks to the savings from several mild winters in the last decade.
