Sacred Heart, Charlevoix rule at Shay Memorial Invite

CENTRAL LAKE — Nearly 300 boys and girls runners from 24 different schools competed at Saturday’s 10th annual Ryan Shay Memorial Cross Country Invitational, with Charlevoix and Mount Pleasant Sacred Heart’s teams coming out on top for Division 3 and 4, respectively.

Charlevoix’s boys edged Grant by seven points for first in Division 3, while the Rayders’ girls outshined Manton 40-58 to also finish first. Mancelona’s boys were fourth with 114 points, Kalkaska took sixth with 140 and Elk Rapids was ninth with 226. On the girls side Mancelona was sixth (174) and Kalkaska eighth (205).

Sacred Heart cruised to the girls top finish with 15 points. The Irish had the top four runners and five of the first six finishers. East Jordan was a distant second with 68 and Ellsworth was third with 99. Bellaire placed sixth with 149.
