Sheriff officials arrest two for armed robbery in Rapid City

RAPID CITY – The population of the Kalkaska County Jail grew by two, after Kalkaska County Sheriff’s Department (KCSD) officials arrested a pair of suspects who reportedly assaulted and then robbed a Clearwater Township resident in the early morning hours of Tuesday, Jan. 8.

According to a prepared statement released by the KCSD, a 33-year-old resident of Clearwater Township called Kalkaska County Central Dispatch a little after 2:30 a.m. Tuesday morning, reporting that he had been robbed at gunpoint and then hit with a blunt instrument.

The victim, who was later taken to a medical facility for treatment of his injuries and then released, also reported that the suspects took cash and firearms from him during the clash at a township residence, with the address not initially released by officials.

A search for the alleged attackers didn’t take long.

KCSD deputies and Michigan State Police (MSP) troopers responded to the scene, with deputies reportedly following foot tracks from the victim’s home to another residence about a mile away.

Undersheriff David Wagner II stated that deputies recovered property that was allegedly taken from the victim and that reportedly linked two male suspects to the robbery.

“One female and two male suspects were arrested,” Wagner added. “The female was arrested for outstanding warrants. The males were arrested for their believed involvement in this crime.”

Names of all three persons taken into custody were not released, as of press time.
