Sister Act: Three sets of sisters win crowns at pageant
KALKASKA – In her farewell speech, Miss Kalkaska 2018 Chloe Miller shared that after spending the past year with her fellow queens on court, she viewed them as her sisters. This year, the bond that grows between court members just got a head start. Sister pairs secured over half of the titles awarded at the 2019 Miss Kalkaska Pageant on Saturday, March 16 at the Kalkaska High School Auditorium.
Shortly after Anabelle Horton was crowned Miss Kalkaska Teen 2019, her older sister A’Leeghan Nason was crowned Miss Kalkaska 2019.
“I hope you like your sister!” someone from the crowd yelled in good humor, presumably a family member, much to the amusement of the audience.
“At that point, nothing else mattered,” said A’Leeghan of the moment her younger sister’s name was announced. “She worked so hard for so many years. I was so incredibly proud!”
Aubrey, Marissa and Kennedy Manchester all secured crowns as well. Kennedy was the first to be crowned of the night as Miss Kalkaska Tiny Tot First Runner-Up. Marissa will hold the title of Little Miss Kalkaska 2019 while Aubrey is now Miss Kalkaska PreTeen 2019.
Scarlett Wellman, Miss Kalkaska Tiny Tot 2019, also has a sister on court. Her sister, Victoria Wellman, is Little Miss Kalkaska First Runner-Up.
The other runner-up winners include Meagan Williams, Miss Kalkaska First Runner-Up; Jaycee Mitchell, Miss Kalkaska Teen First Runner-Up; and Ruby Short, Miss Kalkaska Pre-Teen First Runner-Up.
“Winning the crown does not define who you are but the journey they take to it, helps them to become a better version of themselves,” stated Lisa Cummings, who co-directs the pageant with Kim Stephens. “Each of our young ladies are queens with or without a title and are not only role models but an inspiration to other young ladies in our community.
“We are so proud of each of our 31 contestants and know each of them pushed themselves to be the best ‘me’ they could be,” she added.
