Somers is All-Area Girls Basketball Player of the Year
REGION — “SHE’S A FRESH-MAN! SHE’S A FRESH-MAN!”
That chant could be heard from time to time this season out of the Bellaire student section during girls basketball games, and it was directed toward the opposition as a reminder of how young the Eagles’ Jacey Somers was.
Even though she was only a ninth grader, Somers’ performance on the hardcourt this season did not reflect her age as she proved to be a major difference maker when added to the mix of Bellaire’s team. You could look at plenty of reasons why the Eagles cruised to a Ski Valley Conference championship, or a district title, while only dropping one game out of the 24 they played, but you can’t deny that Somers’ impact was a large part of that success.
