Supporters of skate park to seek estimates for new facility
KALKASKA – They’re not kidding. And, they’re motivated.
That was again the message at a recent Kalkaska Village Council meeting. Trustee Damien White, chairman of the council’s Parks and Recreation Committee, reported that support for a new skate park to be built at Chalker Park remains strong, with a volunteer group moving to ensure the project becomes a reality.
“A citizen’s group has been charged with driving this,” White said. “The kids have been doing an awesome job.”
According to White, fundraising efforts included participating at the recent Kalkaska Street Festival and the group is planning to host a car wash in the near future. That led the council to approving a new budget line item for the skate park project.
“They are highly motivated,” he added. “(And) businesses have stepped up to help things become more feasible.”
One of the next steps for the group, better known as the Kalkaska Skate Park Committee, is to get an estimate on what type of facility they want to see built and how much it would cost. White said that could happen “in the very near future.”
