Tavern sells $120,000 winning Keno ticket
CENTRAL LAKE – Last Tuesday was a big day for a lucky patron of the Central Lake Tavern, when the seasonal resident won $120,000 on Aug. 14 from a progressive "Jack" Keno lottery ticket.
"I was in my office when it happened," said tavern owner Chris Carpenter. "He's not a regular customer, but some of the employees here know him."
The soon-to-be big winner was playing Keno, a fast-paced draw-style game offered by the Michigan State Lottery, at the tavern while awaiting his lunch, said tavern manager Monica Ingersoll.
"First he won $200, which I was able to pay out to him here, and then kept playing," said Carpenter. "He hit the big money a few minutes later on a five number ‘easy pick’ Jack, which is an extra game you can play along with the regular Keno.
"He came up to me and asked what the message meant about contacting the Lottery in Lansing," Carpenter said with a grin. "I told him that meant he'd won BIG!"
In Michigan, Keno gamblers can win up to $250,000.
"He won $120,357," said Carpenter. "That's a pretty nice lunch!
