Tornga takes opportunity at Northwood

ELLSWORTH — As great as Ethan Tornga’s season was going this year in basketball — the leading scorer for the Northern Lakes Conference champion Lancers and easily the top player in the league after having played at an all-state level — the ending was an utter disappointment.

The coronavirus pandemic cut the Lancers’ season short before they had a shot to play for the district title, and Tornga’s efforts to get noticed by colleges didn’t materialize like he had hoped despite having a stellar year.

“After school ended I didn’t really have any offers or anything,” said Tornga. “Things were looking kind of dim in my recruiting process, especially after I didn’t get to finish districts with my team.

“I feel like I put in a lot of hard work and not having that pay off for me was frustrating. I knew it was tough where we are in this small area to get noticed. “There was a big time period where it was really hard to think about basketball and just realizing it might have ended without me knowing. That was tough.”
