Trojans upended in wild football game with Au Gres
AU GRES — A wild night of football between Central Lake-Ellsworth and Au Gres had a dramatic but disappointing ending for the visiting Trojans, who couldn’t hold on to a lead late in the fourth quarter and lost 58-54.
Au Gres scored twice in the final 2:19 to overcome a 12-point deficit in crunch time, including the go-ahead touchdown with 34 seconds remaining. It was the Wolverines’ first lead since a 6-0 advantage in the first quarter. They had trailed by as many as 18 points during the game at different times in both the second and third quarters.
Central Lake-Ellsworth (1-5) had its most prolific offensive game of the season, exceeding the 50-point mark for the first time since the Trojans’ beat Stephenson in the state semifinals two years ago.
