KALKASKA – There could be plenty of fresh faces on the Kalkaska Village Council in 2019. And, now, those new council members might also find themselves searching for a new village manager.

During his manager’s report, village manager Scott Yost announced a pair of retirements at the council’s regular meeting Monday, April 23. The first was on Helen Chew-Artress, who is planning to retire from her position as administrative assistant for the Kalkaska Department of Public Safety after 32 years of service.

“Extend your well wishes to her,” Yost said, adding that a potluck celebration will be scheduled in honor of Chew-Artress in the near future.

The second retirement announced by Yost, who also serves as the director of the Kalkaska Department of Public Safety (KDPS), was his own – or, at least, potentially his own. Although, he said he’s not planning to retire from both his positions with the village until sometime in 2019.

“I’m saying essentially at this time next year,” Yost said. “It is my intent (to retire). For six months, I’ve been dropping hints.”
