Village reduces meeting schedule to save funds

KALKASKA – The Kalkaska Village Council may have found a way to reduce costs, without impacting the day-to-day operations of village staffers or services to local residents.

The seven-member board will simply meet less often.

Up until its regular meeting on Monday, June 11, the council was slated to meet twice a month, at 6 p.m. on the second and fourth Mondays of each month.

However, council members unanimously voted to slice their meeting schedule potentially in half by agreeing to hold just one regular monthly meeting at 6 p.m. on the second Monday of the month.

With the scheduling change, the next regular meeting for the village council would be July 9.

Village President Haley Wales said additional meetings could be convened, if needed.

“If we need a special meeting, we’ll just call for one,” Wales said. “And, we’ll try to give as much advance notice as we can.”
