Village schedules public hearing, encourages input on library expansion
ELK RAPIDS – Feedback from residents and a decision regarding approval for doubling of the size of the existing historical Elk Rapids District Library will have to wait until a formal public hearing is held later this month.
Village council members set the hearing date for 6 p.m. Monday, Oct. 23 during their meeting last week, after listening to a presentation by Ann Arbor-based design firm Hopkins-Burns, outlining the proposed expansion.
However, for the council and most of the 40-some members in attendance at that Oct. 2 meeting, the presentation was a mere formality.
The actual discussion will occur on Oct. 23 when council hears input from citizens and later decides whether the project will move on to its next phase of approval. Council members had previously said that they hope to make a decision at their Nov. 6 meeting.
